You can also experience the dark dungeons where prisoners were kept. In the famous Castle of Good Hope, you’ll find examples of beautiful antique furniture. It’s horribly cold, pitch dark and small. On the top is a restaurant and shop with great views.
Cape Town is full of historical buildings that are worth a view and great for pictures.
You can take a guided tour at the Castle and get all the info on Jan van Riebeeck, the Van der Stel’s, Lady Anne Barnard and everybody that was involved in the beginning years of the Cape.
i’ll have a car so does not event where. We have 3 and a half days. I would similar to to do some walks, but easy – milieu we’re not that fit! 3 days within the Lake District – what should i do?
I’m surprising my partner by taking him away to the Lake District.
KIRSTENBOSCH BOTANICAL GARDENS: Don’t miss this. You will only find indigenous South African plants like Protea, Fynbos etc. There are also numerous historical church buildings. You can pend a whole day and still haven’t seen everything. During normal business hours the streets are too busy to find parking. We climb for a while but it is quite steep and we had no idea how long it would take. There is a path up Table Mountain from inside the gardens. Take a drive through the city area on a Sunday or Saturday afternoon to visit all these buildings.
Unfortunately it is also the ideal spot for beach parties and some of these areas can be very dirty. Clifton is especially famous for its beaches but the water is still cold like the rest of the Cape waters. The small rock pools are excellent for children to play in and obviously not that cold.
I went to italy this year & it was 3 euros for a can of coke! I can’t afford that again. Thanks
Well, you can… Any recommendations of places that are upright fun & cheap? 2010 – holiday accepted wisdom?
We are only 19 and so are looking for an affordable holiday.
You can taste and buy the award winning red and white wines at the cellars. The houses seem glued to the cliffs. Most of the houses are more mansions than houses and are worth a few million. They park on top of their roofs or so it seems.
CLIFTON: THE PLAYGROUND OF THE RICH
Clifton is not for those scared of heights and narrow roads. Any builder that can build a house here deserves a reward. There are daily wine tours, tasting and buying of wines.
17 year olds wanting to move about to Ibiza?
Next year my and my friends are wanting to go to Ibiza. I be looking at flights and hotels and it said that an adult needs to travel with you. Me and 2 of my friends will be 17, my other friend will be just 16.
The menu offers seafood, pasta and a few grill goodies like hamburgers, lamb rib, steak etc. Sit outside with a beautiful view over the beaches of Camps Bay and the very busy and interesting street running next to the sea. You’ll see anything from a top of the range Ferrari to a “gedaan” (run down) taxi, a luxury tour bus to an old beetle.
MARINER’S WHARF (Hout Bay)
Nice cocktails and wine list.
CAPE POINT: Contrary to some beliefs this is not where the two oceans meet. From the top the view over Cape Town is amazing. The last time we went there Chapman’s Peak was closed due to rock falls and we took the road past Kommetjie and Scarborough. Nevertheless Cape Point is an incredible experience. Streets are still cobblestone and narrow. The houses are painted in bright colours and look festive. The actual meeting point is at Agulhas.
You can take the funicular to the point or take a walk. There are 2 200 different plant species to see, as well as a lot of smaller animals. The view is absolutely amazing. The whole area is a nature reserve.
It is a big stone cross that commemorates his achievements. It is a bit of steep to climb but do-able.
GREAT CONSTANTIA: THE OLDEST WINE ESTATE
The history of the farm dates back to 1685 when it was granted to the first Governor of the Cape, Simon van der Stel, as an experimental farm for agricultural produce. Van der Stel named the farm “Constantia” and the produce of vegetables and fruit was supplied to ships that called in at the Cape. Stop at the Dias cross in the reserve.

For my 18th I want to go on a 2 night spa break surrounded by the UK. Does anyone know of any good spa retreats that will give me other 2 night spa getaway including B&B and treatments? In 2007, TripGuy Travel was recognized as one of the best agencies in the Sandals, but they also enjoy an impeccable reputation in the Caribbean, Hawaii and Europe, with hundreds of positive reviews from satisfied clients. Smart packing is another honeymoon travel tip some people fail to follow particularly when going to areas with warmer climates. This is not about taking sweaters and jackets when going to Hawaii, but rather about choosing to have some extra apparel items available for all sorts of occasions, as you may feel the need to wear something other than slippers and t-shirts.
In the top of best 100 travel-related sites, TripGuy Travel got on the 55th place, which is an impressive place for the swarming abundance of offers on the Internet. This traffic ranking is the achievement of professional work and strong collaboration with very committed business partners in Beaches an Sandals Resorts as well as in Royal Caribbean Cruises and Apple Vacations.
Nightlife There are two great places for shopping in Copenhagen: Strøget, the pedestrian mall that links four of the city’s streets, and Fields, Scandinavia’s largest shopping center. For dining, fresh herring can be found in the restaurants along Nyhavn, and typical Mediterranean cuisine can be found in establishments condensed mostly within Indre By. On the city’s outskirts lie Kronborg and Frederiksborg castles, Kronborg being the actual castle that Elsinore Castle of Shakespeare’s Hamlet was based on. There are also many historical attractions northeast of Indre By, including the Rosenburg palace, the Kongens Have gardens and the Botanisk Have greenhouses, the Marmorkirke church, the Amalienborg palace, and the Kastellet military fort.
